Matthew Cocks
Managing Director

Outdoor environmental education comes 'naturally' to Matt. Having spent much of his life looking under rocks, catching bugs and exploring the outdoors, Matt understands why experiential learning is the most effective way to truly understand the complexities of the natural world.

Matt is formally qualified as a classroom teacher and in environmental management. He has seven years experience teaching in both primary and secondary schools in South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. His specialist subjects are environmental science, biology and general science.

In 2010, he made a conscious decision to step out of the classroom, and established the inaugural Outdoor Field Studies Centre of the Middle East, based in the United Arab Emirates. He has introduced over 2000 students to the unique natural environment found in this country. He was also instrumental in setting up the Give-a-Ghaf tree planting programme. Matt worked alongside the Ministry of Environment and Water to get access to mangrove study sites and to visit their fish breeding centre in in the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain, U.A.E.

Recently, he has worked in the area of materials sustainability in the construction sector, and is currently consulting on the setup of a field study programme in Sabah, on the island of Borneo.

Matt is the founder of E²COnsultants. He would love the opportunity to get his hands dirty designing outdoor environmental education programmes for you!
